The SpectraCote T System:
Quality, Start To Finish
The Spectra Cote System is the most comprehensive, quality integrated manufacturing and paint finishing process in the industry. Every step, raw steel through warm roll-forming, is designed to deliver painted steel panels that are the best in the industry.
In basic terms, The SpectraCote T System is a carefully monitored, tightly coordinated manufacturing process designed to assure that each step in production makes a vital contribution to the quality of the step that follows and to the overall integrity of the completed panel. The finished product is roofing and siding with increased durability and performance, a superior finish coating, and greater value to the end user.
Six Steps To Quality Roofing And Siding
Step 1. Galvanizing Quality steel roofing and siding begins with quality galvanizing. The SpectraCote System uses only 100 percent Wheeling-Pittsburgh galvanized steel. Its Cook-Norteman galvanizing process produces steel
with high tensile strength, consistent zinc coating, and excellent formability virtually free of microfracturing.
Step 4. Primer coat The primer coat formulation used in The SpectraCote System is unique in the steel building products industry. Its ultra-flex composition promotes outstanding top coat adhesion, excellent corrosion resistance, and primer coat flexibility that is far superior to standard epoxy resins.
Step 2. Zinc phosphate The SpectraCote System uses a zinc phosphate corrosion inhibiting coating considerably heavier and with a more effective chemical structure than coatings used by other manufacturers. This substantial coating not only enhances corrosion resistance, it promotes paint adhesion far beyond the metal oxide treatment used by most manufacturers.
Step 5. Paint The top coat in The SpectraCote System is an advanced formulation of ultraviolet resistant pigments. It provides the highest gloss and color retention in the industry, as well as superior acid rain and chalking resistance.
Step 3. Seal coating The SpectraCote System employs a dried-in-place sealer that adds to corrosion resistance. The seal coat fills microscopic crevices in the zinc phosphate coating to provide a superior surface for primer coat adhesion and helps guard against corrosion caused by construction scratches. Because of the cost and complexity of the process, many manufacturers omit this step.
Step 6. Warm roll-forming Wheeling 's warm roll-forming process heats the steel sheets prior to its being shaped by forming rolls. This warming process makes the metal more receptive to roll forming and allows the formation of crisp, distinctive profiles without tension-bend cracking that would jeopardize the integrity of the finished panel.
