In the mid 70's Sammy Heath started building pole barns out of his pick–up truck, one building at a time. Heath Building Material, is now owned and operated by Richard Heath (Sammy Heath's brother) and Ruth Heath (Richard's wife.) The company has grown to employing 17 people. Before Richard became owner of Heath Building Material, he was the manager of the Mayfield-Graves Co-op for 13 years.

Heath Building Material operates a truss plant, which was added in 1985. The trusses are engineered and certified by Alpine. Heath also stocks and sells steel siding.

Heath Building Material has been a Western Kentucky Construction Association (WKCA) member since September 2000. They are also a member of the Western Kentucky Home Builders Association, and the National Frame Builders Association.
